Francesca Müller – a name that combines two cultures and opposites. The creativity from her Italian and the order from her German side. She speaks both languages fluently. She began as a Graphic Designer for Ogilvy & Mather and, from there, developed a love for textiles that led her to graduate as a Textile Design Engineer.
In 2008 she started her textile design career supported by Ulf Moritz, in his creations for Sahco Hesslein, Marburger Tapeten, and Vorwerk Teppiche. Encouraged by Mr. Moritz, she started working in India with Mulberry Silks Limited, a weaving mill supplying the high-end European textile editor market. In India, she developed an affinity for Jacquard and Embroidery.
Since 2018 she has worked for Marcel Wanders in Amsterdam and pioneered surface pattern design for brands like Fendi Casa and Natuzzi. Francesca’s studio for Textile & Surface Pattern Design, based in Amsterdam, specializes in developing unique surfaces for soft and hard finishes, including carpets, wallpaper, textiles, and ceramic tiles.
Two key elements characterize her work: On one hand, she is fascinated by the possibilities, characteristics, and restrictions of each material she works with. Second, she wants to tell a story about the opposites we encounter daily. Francesca hopes that the beholder of her designs can see the beauty of the edges created by the opposites.
